About Me

Welcome to My World of Wildlife Cinematography!

I’m Sam Ellis, an Emmy Award-winning Canadian wildlife cinematographer with over 14 years of experience in capturing the breathtaking beauty of our planet. My career has taken me to some of the world’s most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes, where I document the untamed beauty and intricate behaviours of wildlife.

My journey began with a deep love for visual art and a fascination with nature. These passions now converge in every project I undertake, allowing me to transform the natural world into a living canvas. Central to my work is the mastery of light—its power to shape mood, reveal textures, and bring stories to life. Whether capturing the soft glow of dawn in the Amazon rainforest or the dramatic, icy hues of the Arctic, I approach each scene with an artist’s eye, using light to shape the narrative. My aim is not just to showcase the beauty of these environments but to evoke a sense of wonder and responsibility towards our planet through the art of cinematography.

When I’m not behind the camera, I enjoy spending time with my two dogs and seeking new adventures. My dedication to storytelling and environmental stewardship constantly motivates me to push the boundaries of wildlife cinematography. What truly sets my work apart is the deep trust I build with the animals I film. This connection allows me to become a quiet observer in their world, gaining rare access to their most intimate and natural behaviours. It’s this bond that enables me to capture moments that are often unseen, revealing a side of wildlife that few get to experience. Sharing these rare glimpses with the audience is what drives me—bridging the gap between people and the wild and fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Thank you for visiting my page. If my work resonates with you or if you’re interested in collaborating on a project, please feel free to reach out!

To future adventures,

Sam Ellis
